When a friend told me about a neat kid’s book that also had a catchy song, I just thought it might be cute fun for my kids. But when I actually watched the live telling of Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, I instantly fell in love with this book – and its message.

Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes

Illustrated by James Dean, with story by Eric Litwin, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes tells the story of a cat who loves his white shoes and goes for a walk while signing a song. Along his walk he steps in different piles of things that change the colors of his beloved shoes. But through it all, Pete the Cat is not upset. He stays positive and keeps singing his song – because “it’s all good”.

Kids will love the story and the silliness of what Pete steps in. They will also learn several colors as Pete the Cat’s shoes change colors. With simple repetitive text, kids will feel confident enough to join in and read or sing along.

I LOVE the moral of the story: to have a positive attitude no matter what comes your way, and to keep on going.

I recommend watching the live telling of the book (see the video below) so you know how to sing the song. Then buy the book and read and sing with your children!

You can have so much FUN WITH YOUR KIDS with this book!

Story Behind the Story

After doing a little bit of searching, I found out how Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes was created – and that’s a great story itself! Illustrator James Dean was an Atlanta artist known for his paintings of Pete the Cat, whom he had created years ago. One day Eric Litwin happened to see James Dean on the streets and mentioned he had a story and song for Pete the Cat. They ended up working together and creating this amazing art!

And another interesting little nugget of information I learned was that both the author and illustrator started out in non-artistic fields: Dean was an engineer and Litwin was a special education teacher. This gives me even more inspiration to go out and do something you love and are passionate about.
